Itinerary
WEDNESDAY 3rd JULY - 2:45pm- expedition kit will need to be collected and shared between the groups.
Itinerary:
Friday 12th July 5am meet at school for Small Kit Check before coach departure at 5.30am for Gatwick airport.
Meet Hepworth Adventure staff either on the flight or as we arrive in Bergen. They will then take over the running of the trip.
Flight from London Gatwick to Bergen 9:35am – 12:30pm We then take a tram ride from the airport to Bergen (approximately 45mins)
Once in Bergen students can buy any additional fresh food they need for their expedition. We will also be collecting gas for their stoves. We will then depart by train at 16:46 and arrive in Finse at 19:21. We plan for students to eat their own evening meal on stoves in Finse, (or they can buy their own take out in Bergen to eat on the train journey - but it isn't cheap in Bergen).
Students are wild camping the first night on the outskirts of Finse, by the lake.
Saturday 13th July Acclimatise Day: Students will be cooking their own breakfast and need their own lunch. They will do a short acclimatisation walk to the edge of the glacier. We will then walk back into Finse to the DNT hut (like a Youth Hostel) for evening meals and indoor accommodation. The group will be in separate rooms from the public but there may have to be some bunk rooms with mixed genders. Toilet and shower facilities are separate. They will get a 3-course evening meal, breakfast and be able to take food from the breakfast buffet for their lunch on day 1. A small bag with clean clothes can be left at the DNT hut for their return. Please note no valuables can be left as these are not locked away.
Sunday 14th - Wednesday 17th July Students will be on their qualifying expedition. They will have loosely planned some routes back in the UK but they will be subject to change based on weather conditions. They will need 3 evening meals, 4 packed lunches (1 can be taken from the DNT hut) and 3 breakfasts. They will finish back at the DNT hut in Finse for the final night in Finse. They will get an evening meal, breakfast and be able to take their lunch for the train journey back to Bergen at 12:37 arriving in Bergen at 15:00.
Thursday 18th July Once back in Bergen we will be staying one night in the Magic Hotel Kloverhuset; private rooms / dorms have been secured. Thursday evening we'll finish the day at a restaurant for an evening meal at Egon restaurant. Their menu can be found here. The cost of this meal (main, chips, drink and dessert) is included.
Friday 19th July We will have to check out of the hotel by about 10 am and leave our luggage at the hotel. The students will have some free time to explore Bergen. They will have to get their own lunch in Bergen before we collect their bags and take the tram back to the airport for a 7:00 pm flight back to Gatwick (ETA 20:20). We have a coach booked from Gatwick back to school. Students will inform you once we have departed Gatwick and exact ETA at SCD but likely to be between 10pm and midnight depending on flight, passport control and traffic conditions.
